My son was allergic to all diapers and Pampers were the worst. I had to buy chlorine free disposables, but they are a little more expensive, so I went for cloth.
The new cloth is amazing. If you have a washing machine, I recommend it. They are so cute and work just like disposables except with snaps(or velcro, but I like snaps better) in place of tabs. If you're interested in cloth check this out:
http://thediaperpin.com/sale/diaper/pin/baby/cloth_diaper.htm
these are my favorites:

If you're interested in chlorine free (almost no risk of allergies) I use these:

If you're not interested in either, I would recommend getting a pack of each and try them out to see how your baby reacts. If you do that, make a quick call to the hospital to see what brand they use, that way you can try whatever it is they use without buying a pack. Then just wait and see how your baby reacts.
It's always recommended to use cloth wipes for the first 6 weeks. After that I had pretty good luck with Huggies ultra sensitive.

Babies that are allergic to diapers usually have a allergic reaction to the obsorbancy material in them. I would not worry about the diaper when buy before the pregnancy. Babies grow fast in that first couple of months, so you are going to want to buy a few of each size starting with o pounds and working your way up. Some people love huggies and others love pampers. I have yet to see a person love the store brands or luvs. Wal mart though has a very nice brand that is an off brand called whiteclould. So if I were you I would get some of all the brands and see for myself. You will not know if your baby is allegic until you start putting diapers on it.
As for as wipes, I would get the non hypo alergenic in the huggies brands. The off brands can really cause bad rashes. Pampers hypo alergenic seems to be ok as well.

i'm not sure if my daughter is allergic to certain diapers, but i do know she breaks out with diaper rashes with certain brands. we started off with the cheapest brand. couldn't use those because they just didn't fit right. so we used white cloud. well after about 3 or 4 months i noticed she would get diaper rashes really bad. doctor said no need to change brands though. well i did. i switched to luvs. and i thought they were great. she hasn't had a diaper rash since then. pampers are great too. we are using them right now because i can't find any in my daughter size in luvs. the only thing i didn't like about luvs is the way the smell.
as for wipes, we use the store brand parent's choice. the only time we got any other brand was when the store we went to didn't carry them. i highly recommend parent's choice newborn. they are cloth like and feel soft. trust me i know. i used these after i had my daughter via vaginal delivery.
personally i say start with the pampers swaddlers if you can afford them. if not then go with white cloud. that's if you have a walmart nearby. i learned that until my daughter reached size 1 that any brand made specifically for newborns was best. oh and huggies newborn are great too. but i'd start off cheap. because you will be buying diapers and wipes all the time. before you know it them 40 diapers won't last you very long. and you'll be buying them by the case because you have to, not because you want too.

My baby has very sensitive skin so I have always used Pampers sensitive wipes,I started out using Huggies supreme but now swear by pampers diapers. When my son had the one diaper rash of his little life when he was 3 weeks I used his face clothes and warm water.I dont think I would ever recomend Huggies,I think they may have caused his diaper rash,I also only use vaseline on his bumb,I found all the other creams he would have a red bumbAll babys are different, mine just happens to be one of those really sesitive ones, best of luck to you.

Get perfume free and I just use store brand.
Never had a problem.
For the even more frugal. Get a wipe warmer keep it full of water. Use good quality papertowels OR the have special more cloth like napkins available at some drugstores (particularly the ones for old people. You can cut these napkins into 4. That is what they do in the hospital in the special care nursery). No allergy. No problem.

I was allergic to wipes, all kinds, so then (in 1989) my mom used water and paper towels. She wet the towels and then used them as you would a wipe. Now they have sensitive wipes. I am not too sure about diapers, my mom used cloth on me, no problems there.

Get the newborn wipes and Premium diapers from Pampers - they are fantastic for newborns. Very soft and cloth like.
Avoid wipes with fragrance - I like the Kirkland wipes at Costco, they are fragrance free and good value for money.

My son is allergic to every disposable diaper on the market-that gel stuff irritates him-so we switched to cloth, once I read up on it more I'm glad I did.
If you are going to go with disposable wipes, go with sensitive ones or the seventh generation ones.
