Sometime around the time that my mother passed away, when I was very vulnerable, a cat showed up around my house. I took it in against the rules of my lease, and THEN found out that my best friend is severely allergic to cats. I didn't know it was such a hardship for her but she gets really sick and hasn't come over since I had the cat. The cat is now gone but I need to get rid of the allergens left behind, I want my friend back!

I do have an ionic air purifier, how much is this going to help? I have carpeted surfaces and also vinyl flooring, not much soft furniture except my bed and a chair. Add to this that I am going through the household to finally declutter behind my late mother and sort items for passing on to family members...so the cleaning process will be harder because I am having to shift things around that are in limbo.

Don't want to steam clean the carpets, I did this recently and can't afford it or the time. Any other cheap, easy solutions? Products?

She's allergic to the cat dander. Vacuum well, dust well and wash the floors. That should do it. it isnt the fur or the smell, it's the dander

impishone is right. You have to remove the dander, not just cover up the smells. I would work from top to bottom (dust doorframes then ceiling fans, furniture, etc...) Make sure to clean even the walls and baseboards. Vacuum thoroughly, under and behind all furniture. Sweep and mop well. Clean any drapes, blankets, towels, etc.

It will help a little. If your friend is that allergic, I'm afraid the only solution is deep cleaning. The smell of Cat can be masked with Febreeze.
