well I don't know what you like to read, but this book called Number the Stars is good...it's about the Nazi's envading Copenhagen, and this girl, and her family help hide her best friend who is Jewish, when the Nazi's come to take her family away....it doesn't sound interesting but it's very good. oh and there are some books by Lois Lowery...she wrote the book " I know What you did last summer" which was turned into a movie later on. my favorite of hers was called "locked In Time" its about this teenage girl coming to stay with her Father , new Stepmother, and her two kids....but she soon finds out that her new family are actually over 100 years old and they want to kill her and her Father. its a really good book. I have always loved to read, so I don't know if any of those would interest you, but you should at least give them a try....

Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants
The Pigman or My Darling, My Hamburger- Both By Paul Zindell
Anything by Francesca Lia Block- The Weetzie Bat series or I Was A Teenage Fairy.

Gosh, there are so many. Do an Amazon search. They have book lists that follow certain topics.

As always I second (third..fourth...whatever) the suggestion of Twilight by Stephenie Meyer along with the sequel New Moon.

You could try a book by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes. The interesting thing about her as a writer is that she started writing and was published while she was still a teenager. Her first book is called In the Forests of the Night and I believe she won her publishing contract in a writing contest with that story. She now has many books published. My favorite book by her is Hawksong.

You might try the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series.

Also:
Uglies (Uglies Trilogy, Book 1) by Scott Westerfeld
A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray
The Book Thief Hardcover by Markus Zusak
Sweetblood by Pete Hautman
Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin
Purity Reigns by Stephanie Perry-Moore

Sweetblood is interesting. A little sinister, but I love the protagonist. The Secret Life of Bees, if you're into mother-daughter stories. But it's not the sappy kind, it's graceful, and Sue Monk Kidd doesn't use generic experiences to write the book. I do not recommend The Clique. It's unrealistic and adheres to modern cliches of teenage life.

I agree with The Curious Incident of the Dog . . . easy read, but very interesting. I'd also recommend To Kill a Mockingbird. It's told through a young girl's point of view. Her dad has to defend a black man that is charged with raping a white woman. It's not a tough read either. I don't think you'll like Catcher in the Rye unless you like complex story lines. It gets a little confusing. Good luck!

YA books for the masses are usually recommends for this age and most enjoy it (although as a teen I distest them but most of them are okay)

In the student book club I remember reading:
-Life is funny
-Blood and Chocolate
-The Lovely Bones
-Tenderness
-My Sister's Keeper

Just check out your local library for a YA read book list. I second Catcher in the Rye because it's good too (although some teens find it tedious, depressing and etc..)

What kind of books do you read? Any favorite genre?

I am glad to hear your school is big on reading. Reading is great!

Try Anne of Green Gables about a quick witted, determined orphan

or The Cat Ate My Gymsuit about a misfit who hates life until someone opens her eyes. and the sequel, There’s a Bat in Bunk Five.
