Pardon Sam: What your mother wants to do is to save money and to spend the money on school for you. No matter your feelings for your aunt, you must accept that the money will go for your education. The aunt is in the past. You are the future. Just make sure that you use the money to get the very best education that you can. Maybe you can use your education to help others. Your aunt's depression is incurable (I'm sorry) Your education is ahead of you (I'm glad!)

Maybe if you tell your Mom that she is also depressed over Katie (since you said your Mom look really blue)....tell your Mom there is new medicine that may help Katie and you would like to talk to your uncle about the possibilities. They have many new medications that work well, sometimes it is a matter of finding the right doctor !!!! This could take several tries. Effexor XR is a very good antidepressant and Katie may need to be on lithium. She needs a really good doctor to check her. My sister-in-law suffered severe depression for years, crying, screaming etc. she had so many doctors and electric shock therapy (which I do no recommend) until finally one doctor finally figured out the right combination of drugs for her. She is now after 10 years doing just fine ! Sometimes there is no cause for despression, other times it is called "situational" depression. Both can be helped be a GOOD doctor. Tell your Mom and Uncle and Katie, and remind them , depression hurts EVERYONE in the family !
Best wishes.

there are agencies which can help under certain situations. there are health clinics and other programs available. have your mother call the local welfare or trustee office and set up an appointment. there are income guidelines but this situation sounds serious enough you need to check into some professional help -- at least in my opinion.
