My sisters and I have bought my mom Dell Laptop for x-mas... the problem is her home doesn't allow any DSL connections. The locall companies said that they can only do Dial-up connections. Which is another problem since the time that the house was built, there are no real good connections for another telephone line except the one she is using. Yeah... crazy story don't ask... But any (positive) ideas would be greatly appreciated... Thanks,
E
P.S.
The Dell laptop have a wireless card already in it.

Did you check with your cable TV provider? If she has cable TV, she may have cable Internet available.

If not the only options it sounds like would be either a Broadband Wireless Data card with service from Sprint, Verizon, etc., or satellite Internet. These can be costly, but it would be better than dial-up as far as speed goes.

If cost is an issue, you can run a splitter on the telephone line and that would be better than nothing. You can by a phone cable splitter at Wal-Mart for a couple bucks. She wouldn't be able to use her phone while she is on the net on dial-up anyway. Then she can wait for DSL or Cable Internet to come available.

Also, you won't be able to use a wirless router with dial-up.

No, nothing can give you internet access except, well, internet access. You need a phone or cable line in the house to get the internet, it's that simple.

turn off the on the spot card, and uninstall your networking hardware during the administration panel, gadget, gadget supervisor. while living house windows tells you to place in it tell it no and tell it to no longer ask you back. Or get a pal to create a password for internet guard utility which will shrink your internet travels. tell your pal to allow you to basically circulate to your e mail handle no seek engines, no longer something. while they password guard it thats it.

The only thing I can think of is to get broadband wireless but that can get pretty expensive.
