Seriously, take a look, around, you think the world is supposed to be this way?

There is no "supposed to be," only what is. A lot of people think the "modern" world is advanced. Technology is coming along, and the gains are impressive, but other than that the world is strikingly primitive, even in the U.S. Life is indeed challenging, and it always has been. Don't expect things to get better in your lifetime. In fact, people may look back on the early 21st century someday and think of it as a gentle, happy golden age.
If I were you, I'd focus on everything that doesn't "suck" and think about doing everything in my power to MAKE YOUR OWN LIFE as optimal as possible. That's worth working for, in my opinion.

The world is a beautiful place that doesn't suck at all.
It's human beings that usually suck.
