Well, I'm in my mid twenties and I do know that many medications do have some side effects, so of which may lead to acne...I haven't read of any of the medications used in controlling hyperthyroidism to cause acne however. At 13, you're becoming more hormonal and this, if anything, will cause sporadic acne flare-ups. I know that it can be stressful, especially if you've never had skin problems, but don't worry because eveyone has gone or is going through the same thing. Definitely talk with your physician who'll probably refer you to a dermatologist who'll start you off on mild acne meds (it's best to start off with small percentages of salicylic acid or benzyl peroxide - +/- 2.5% or so that way you can save the stronger medication for when you're in your late teens and (only if) it's worse. In the mean time, drink plenty of water to cleanse your skin from the inside out and cleanse with clearasil oil control cleanser 2-3x's a day. Maybe even once a week use a mask, but at 13 have your mom help you pick a good one out b/c your skin may be too sensitive right now. Also try ProActive (most malls have kiosks that sell it now, so you won't have to order it online) and if it's too bad Oxy just made this really powerful medication with 10% benzyl peroxide in it and that will totally clear up your skin. Don't worry though, you'll grow out of it...just part of growing pains...Good Luck!!

Dry and/or greasy skin due to poor oil composition of the skin. Thick greasy oils clog pores, lack of oil leads to dryness and irritation. You need thin oils to moisturize while dissolving and clearing gunk in your poors. Try fish oil or seafood. 2 tsp fish oil a day or 4 servings of seafood a week. Stick it out for at least 2 months; it will take a long time to replace all your oil. Any effect after 1-2 days is temporary or random; so even if it makes you break out a little at first, you haven't given it a full try yet.
In the short term you can wash and moisturize well, but that will only go so far. Plus excessive washing can be drying and excessive moisturizing can be clogging. Use a small amount of a light moisturizer, made with oil not jelly or grease. Often that means soybean oil or mineral oil. Mineral oil means mined from the ground. So soybean oil is usually better, though mineral oil won't cause too much harm. Clean with soap and water, not a harsh acne cleanser. Even then they only work so well. So you really need the seafood.
Antibiotics aren't really good for bacteria long term, they'll come back in force after. Short term they may help. After you get off them find some kefir with acidophilus listed first or 2nd to replace the friendly bacteria they destroyed. Studies show less illness when you have these bacteria, even outside the stomach in places such as the lungs and elsewhere. You want friendly bacteria to fill the void when the antibiotics stop, not harmful ones.
In the short term you might also try 100,000+ iu retinol vitamin A (a megadose, and too much for normal use) or one of the acne drugs that is similar to retinol vitamin A. It's some minor harm to your organs, but it helps against bacteria on your skin. At least it doesn't have the other long term drawbacks to your skin that antibiotics and many scrubs do.
If you would like to learn how to treat your acne permanently and regain your health and wellbeing, without drugs, without typical acne treatments, and without any side effects, then this will be the most important letter you will ever read.

Yes it could affect your skin.
Most of the drugs that drs prescribe will dry your skin up. You still break out and you get these rough dry patches. I know I treid it.
I have treid everything.
There is this stuff called acnefree I got it at walmart for like twenty dollars and the blackhead remover works great. It drys them up and doesn't dry out my skin.
Try that and if it doesn't work try proactive...alittle more expensive but friends tell me it works like a charm.
Plus you are young and hormones are going to cause you to break out. The worst is far from older. Some people get acne well into old age. I am 22 and still have to deal with it.

of course you should go talk to your doctor! don't worry a doctor has patients with all sorts of weird infectious disease and i'm pretty sure a teen with a common acne case is last on his WORRY list. haha. and you can try to use Clinique. that's an expensive brand but it's totally worth it. it has this little tube called "pore minimizer" and it works like a charm. just dab the little cream on your face and in less then a minute, your face feels sooo smooth!! try it :D and i hope i helped =]

Acne can be inherited. Anyway, ask a Dematologist what you can do to get rid of that nuisance. Perhaps Elidel and/or Eucerin might help. Mention them to your Doctor. The former is by prescription and the latter is over-the-counter.
