Because my 17 year old best guy friend claims that he is a bisexual, but he is still a virgin. I'm convinced that he must have sex before being sure about that. Am I right?

btw he has a gf, & he is def. attracted the girls. I just kind of thought that since he is still young, it could be just a temporary attraction or crush or something.

ABSOLUTELY NOT! As a bisexual virgin myself, I *hate* it when people say that.

Let's look at things logically. By that reasoning, that means that all virgin teenagers are, basically, without a sexual orientation, since they haven't had sex with anyone yet. Gay? Straight? Bisexual? No one can say- they haven't had sex! Yet we all know that's not true- there are gay teenagers and straight teenagers who have never had sex with anyone, but definitely know what they like and who they want to be with. Why would it be any different for bisexuals?

In the end, sexual orientation is about who you desire and want to be with. You can go your whole life knowing you're bisexual and never have sex. Now, there's this whole concept of 'having to have sex before being sure'. This, in my opinion, is a BAD idea. Do you know how many virgins have pretty awful sexual experiences their first time around? I'm certainly glad that a botched experience doesn't turn people off from what they like! It's not the quality of the sex, which varies from person to person, depending on your level of attraction to one another, skills, techniques, desire to please one another, whether or not you're in love, etc.. Rather, it's who you want to be with, and you are definitely sure about that.

It's possible to be bicurious, which is to say the concept is intruiging, but you aren't sure you have a true attraction to the 'other' sex, whatever that sex happens to be. In this case, being with a person of that gender, in a sexual sense, might 'confirm' something or disprove it, but I still say that nobody should do that. First off, people aren't guinea pigs, and the whole concept of 'experimenting' seems to forget that sex is something people put a lot of emotion into- if you're going to experiment, everyone involved needs to know what's going on. Moreover, you can have, like I mentioned above, a bad experience or two that might make you think you weren't bisexual, but indeed truly be, because it isn't about a sexual experience, but a lifetime's desire.

If your friend says he's bisexual, he is. Doesn't matter if he's a virgin or not- it's about who he lusts after, and if it's both boys and girls, then he's bisexual.

Hope that helps.

No you do not have to have sex to know you are bi. Most folks didn't have sex before they "claimed" or "assumed" they were straight. ;) I discovered I was bisexual before I had my first sexual experience with a female.

"Bisexuals (whether they are male or female) almost always end up with men. It's just a fact of life"

Not true! I know many bisexual men and women who are with women exclusively and many that are with both!

Your friend is actually gay, Sweetie. Bisexuals (whether they are male or female) almost always end up with men. It's just a fact of life. A lot of young gay men are usually too scared to admit they are totally gay, so they pretend to be bisexual. Just tell him you're okay with him being gay and that you love him as a friend either way. Then go shopping together and have fun. Being a fag hag is totally bitchin, or so I've heard from my own hags.

Time will tell. Just ask him to get an education on safe sex before he goes there.
HIV may be something you can live with under treatment but it is not something you want to live with.
I have had friends die of AIDS and have friends living with HIV. It is not easy to live with.

Nope, no connection. Sexual behavior and sexual orientation are two different things. I don't have to have sex with a hot guy to know that I lust after him in a purely gay way. Or with a Playboy model to know that she turns me on, too. Why are you arguing with your friend? He knows how he feels, you don't.

You don't have to have sex to know who you're attracted to. O knew I was bi when I was 12.

Have you ever been stabbed in the eye with an ice pick?

Would you like to be?

How do you know if you never tried?

Same logic!

i don't think he needs to have sex to know because sex has NOTHING to do with being bi. it could be temperary, but it might not. my advise would be to let your friend figure this out on his own, he is the only one that really knows.
