My doctor is totally gorgeous - late 20s, fit, nicely spoken, cute floppy hair, etc etc - the last time I went to see him was for laryngitis (how could I have lost my voice?) but I made him check my chest and expressed concern about my wrist (slightly true, but not essential) mainly so I could hold his hand for a while.
The poor man is probably inundated with ladies with mythical chest complaints and lady part issues.

When you describe this it makes me think of a surgeon. Surgeons generally focus on one specialty of organs - but you need to know basically all of them to be sure that you do not do something to cause harm. But I suppose you need to know more anatomy than just internal organs. A gastroenterologist focuses on the the digestive system, mainly the stomach and intestines. So they would know basically every disease and treatment related to this system. Endocrinology deals with hormones and the pathological possibilities therein. This is really a molecular and biochemical study. I'm not sure what to say other than there are a lot of specific hormones that are made in certain places, controlled by certain bodily mechanisms, and cause actions in different places based on cellular receptors that vary by organ/tissue/cell within tissue.
