DVD-ROM means that you have just DVD player. You can buy one of these still, however you can get a DVD player/writer for the same price now.

When researching DVD player/writers it is important you know the common specification lingo they use at local stores or online resellers. DVD in conjunctions with -/+ R means that read and write to a DVD (one time). DVD with RW means that it can read and re-write on a dvd (meaning that buying the RW media will allow you to erase and reuse the dvd media multiple times).

Also another thing you should know is single vs dual layered dvds. single layered DVDs hold approx. 4.7G of information. dual layered dvds hold approx. 9.4G of data. Most dvd writers you get now are dual layer but the dual layer dvds you will burn your data on are a lot more than single layered dvds.

HD and Blueray DVD burners are VERY expensive right now and I'm sure you won't want to buy them. Hardly anyone is right now until prices come down and one of the high definition formats is picked. The two companies are fighting for popularity right now. High definition DVDs are very expensive to buy since they hold WAY more information than a single or dual layered dvd.

hope i didn't confuse you and this helps.

Any DVD drive that you buy will be able to read a DVD. But if it doesn't specify on the box or drive somewhere that it is a DVD R/RW then it won't record a DVD.

I had the same difficulty with a Gateway pc lately. What i counsel doing first (once you be waiting to finish that) is to attempt booting from a DVD and spot if it sees the disk. If it does no longer see it, it is going to both bypass it or keep on an similar time as attempting as appropriate. this may narrow down no count number number if or no longer the problem is software (living homestead homestead windows) depending or hardware (the stress itself) depending. My pc made delicate clicking noises on an similar time as attempting to substantiate DVD's - even with the straightforward shown actuality that it would analyze CD's purely effective. In my case it does no longer boot from any bootable DVD - so as a effect I had an argument quickly with the stress. i tried to bathe the stress utilizing a cleansing disk licensed for drives that are in a lot of cases put in in laptops - yet this did no longer restore the problem both. I opted to regulate the stress because it change into extremely older, out of assure, and it change into more suitable shrink priced to regulate it than to target to have the laser realigned. interior the shape that your pc takes position to although boot from DVD's yet they purely dont' function in living homestead homestead windows there are some DVD/CD burning softwares that write drivers to the registry that ought to now and lower back grant up your stress from operating in a lot of cases. with a view to larger diagnose your difficulty i'd imagine of gathering this little bit of assistance would bypass an prolonged way in the route of looking a answer for you.

DVDs are still only readers.... It always must say DVD-RW - you want to look for the 'writer' part somewhere on the box.
