In Michigan where I live that falls under short term disability and if your company has that available then you will receive some money from that. Mine was like 60% of my wage. Talk to your human resources dept. ASAP to find out if you qualify, unemployment is for laid off workers. You should've been asking about this months ago...

You cannot collect unemployment for maternity leave. I just went through the same thing. Now, if your employer has short term disability insurance, you can get paid that way. Unfortunately, my work did not have that type of insurance so what I did was used up all of my vacation and sick time for the six weeks I was off. I had 10 days vacation and like 3 sick days. So, basically, I got paid for 2 weeks. (you figure there are 5 days in a work week X's 2 = 10 days or 2 weeks.) But I was hurtin for those other 4 weeks I didn't get paid! I am still trying to get caught up! I had her October 15, 2006 and had maternity leave (unpaid) until the week of Thanksgiving. Ask you employer if they offer that to their employees. Some good employers have it! Lucky if you do!

Did you leave work as in Maternity Leave or did you quit??? You won't be able to collect unemployment until you can prove you're looking for a job (which I'm guessing you are not). You are still employed if you're on Maternity Leave, that is NOT unemployed. Technically you're employed so the answer to your vague question is NO. You have benefits even if you are on Maternity Leave. T hat is unless you quit or were fired.

Well, most jobs offer maternity leave and they at least have to give you six weeks off that is the law.

If you quit no you can't get unemployment.
And if you are on leave, technically you are still employeed.

YOu should be able to file for assistance through FIA or human services. YOu can collect that for up to three months.

Yes in canada. I have switched jobs in the last year. They look at all my insurable hours worked in the province over the last year... I think it needs to be more then about 600 hours.. and then unempoyment pays your maternity.. BUT maternity takes 4 weeks to get accepted.. so you need to find a suplement or live on savings for a month

No but you can get short term disability. Your employer has to give you the form or fill it out and submit it for you. It takes a while though. You'll probably get a check just as you get back to work. It will be about 1/2 of what you normally make.

no. your company should still pay you for maternity leave. You are still employed by the company, but you just aren't working. Think of it as a paid vacation.

i don't think so. if you are on maternity leave you are not unemployed-you still have a job, you just aren't there.

If you quit Yes. I have done it. You can say you quit because you need a job more flexible to you having an infant and your job does not allow flexible hours. You paid into your EDD you can draw from it
