It's a matter of prioritising your time - a good start is to turn the telly off etc - and taking the opportunity to read when eg. travelling to work etc. However books are written to be enjoyed and so it's important not to turn the pleasure of reading into a marathon event.
Doing a course of some sort is more likely though to increase your wisdom - I studied literature and through combining reading with the challenge of essay writing gained a lot of knowledge. The Open University do excellent courses.
Audio books are a good way of 'reading' books while undertaking other tasks.
Good luck.

Hello Frankie
Yes it is possible to read 3 books a week, I did it almost every week for six years while i was working for Borders in London, who seemed to expect it. I read proofs, staff picks, lots of things, most of it actually rubbish. I worked long hours, read during the night, eventually got the push because I was ill. Now I read hardly anything - only what I want to. Poetry mainly. Also computer manuals. But I read when I want to ... and if I want to sit and think, or if I want to meet up with friends, of if I just want to spend quiet times with my family, that is what I do ... I bought a book years ago called A Lifetime's Reading (now out of print, I think) and it gave you a list of books from all over the world to read, year by year, year by year, until you had read all the most 'important' books in the world. What an idea!
I held down a full time job, I had a family, I taught 3 times a week at evening classes, and so forth. The Bible is the best book for acquiring wisdom. I read it daily, quietly, at 6am for an hour. I can send you a reading plan, if you wish.
Bless you. Barry.

I've read three books a week when I'm in the mood for it and they are good books and at the same time I was doing a full time job. However, also going out 2-3 time a week might be a bit tough.
They were really good books though.
:)

I work from 8:30-5:30 and I have a boyfriend and freinds and i can sometimes read 3 or more books a week while still having a life. I read the Lord of the Rings Trilogy in three days...gratned i didnt do much those three days. I read on my lunch break at work and on week nights when others are busy. Then i can go out and have fun on the weekend. Its not to hard to do. Plus the more you read the easier it is to finish a book quickly

When I'm in super-reading mode, I read 2 or 3 books a week. I work full-time and have a husband. Going out might mean running out for errands for an hour or two, or on the weekends. But why not? You can read more mainly if you get of the net and turn off the TV!!

I suppose it is possible, but it's not the best way to gain information (wisdom you get from experience), books can merely provides information/ facts and speed reading is not the way to do it as you need time to reflect on what you've read. I did a lot of speed reading at the University, but now I can hardly remember those books. I read about one book a week, depending on the length. I did however read Pat Barker's "The Ghost Road" in just one day... but that was a novel.

Sure it is! I read 3 - 4 books a week, have a full time job and a social life. And I don't read Mr Men books! I can't say that reading has given me wisdom, but it has given me hours of enjoyment.

I think the quality of what your reading is more important than the quanity. Sound familiar? When you go out, why not join a book club at the library or Borders where you can increase your wisdom through the discussion of books. Here's a link to Time's top 100 novels. Don't waste your time on fluff, read intelligent books.

Yeah its possible, and i say thats a good goal. but dont let it taek away from your job and stuff... also be aware that just reading three books wont allow you to gain wisdom- some books out there will, but just by reading three a week doesnt necessarily mean you'll get a lot wiser. but still, i'd say go for it! try it anyway, find books you like, and read away!

You might want to consider a speed reading course.
In addition, always keep a book at hand and read whenever you have a few minutes
*on the bus if you commute
*at lunch on your own
*listen to a book on your mp3 player or CD player while exercising
If you find a book bogging down and not holding your interest, drop it and read something else. Slogging through a book that drags will keep you from your goal.
