this has been going on for about a month now, her poop comes up out of her diaper onto her back. is this normal? should she be looked at by her pediatrician? has this happened to anyone else?

This happened with my son when he was 3 to 6 months old. My wife and I went up a size and/ or stage with his diapers and the issue got better but was not resolved. We then switched to Pampers cruisers and "rocket bum" was no more!! We took him to the pediatrician about the matter, and she merely reiterated that diaper size and (believe it or not) placement were the opportunities with the smelly situation. Do not worry about the poopy situation at four months. I have a feeling that everyone who answered this question has gone through this episode!!! It is awesome that you sought advice, you are a great mom for doing that!!!!

Haha oh what a mess! We had a little phase with my son around that age where he started going a lot.... we found Huggies Natural Fit worked best on him (he's longer & leaner so that may be why, because I know lots of moms that hate Huggies for some reason...) I'm guessing whenever you decide to start on some solids, her stools will probably solidify some. In the meantime, just try to get that diaper tight and make sure there's as little leak room as possible. Though I know it always makes it's way up the back somehow... good luck :-)

My daughter did that. Even when some diapers were too big on her. The best thing you can do is put on a larger diaper and See if that helps. It doesn't mean that the diaper that she is wearing is too small, I know believe me. Sometimes means that she is pooping too much for her diaper. Funny that much can come out of a little baby huh! lol

Yes this happens.

1) Try going up a size
2) Make sure there is a gap between the bum and the diaper for the poo to pool. If the diaper is too snug the poo will be squeezed out the top (back) or the diaper before it has a chance to be absorbed.

Try getting her a bigger size diaper, my first son used to have that happen all the time so I just went to the next biggest size and we had no problems from there!

Yes this will happen with most diapers. Go up a size. I know I had to use pampers and huggies when my son was in between sizes.

My baby daughter had this problem, (esp with breasmilk fed babies). Try a bigger diaper or a different brand may fit her better. I liked Luvs for my skinny girl...but my chubby boy needed Pampers swaddlers, then cruisers.

My baby's does that sometimes when she has bad gas mixed w/poop. Imagine all that pressure of a Fart along w/a wet poop. It's gonna have to go somewhere. Sometimes, that pressure will trickle up their poor backs. TOTALLY NORMAL.

how cute! that's the cutest question ever! tee hee!
