I just finished Avatar the last Airbender and really enjoyed the show. I have been away from anime for over five years now. Are there any recent series that are as good or similar to Avatar?
I enjoy fantasy anime the best.

Well for one. Avatar isnt an anime. It just has a anime style to it. So i dont blame you for the confusion. But to answer. The good cartoons that were just as good as Avatar got canned. These shows were Teen Titans, Justice League, and Samurai Jack (was better than Avatar). I only know that you can watch Samurai Jack on toonamijetstream.com.
Naruto has its similarities with avatar. But lacks in adventure content and more towards action. Probally the only anime i can think of which is close to avatar would be Fist Of the North Star. Although, this adventure anime can be very brutal with the action. So, be advised.

Yeah Naruto is kind of similar to Avatar.
Also, there are a lot of anime that's wonderful w/o it being too similar to Avatar.

-Full Metal Alchemist (the manga is the best! Anime is like blah)

Naruto is one of the best. It has a good story. It’s one of the best because it’s popular. Though there are other shows out there that can be considered really the best. I personally recommend:
•InuYasha(really interesting story)
•Air tv(sad, nice story, a girl that’s a reincarnation of a girl with unhuman powers that lived in feudal japan, the girl was a winged being, thus having or being very powerful, all info is really spoiler. )
•Tokyo Mew Mew(5 girls saving the world from aliens)
•Eureka 7(mecha, sad ending)
•Full Metal Alcamist(cool show)
•Ouran High School Host club(funny,girl that drees)
•Tusubasa Chronicle(story line with xxxholic interwine)(about timetravel)
•xxxHolic(same with tsubasa)(about a boy whi can see spirts)
•Mermaid Melody(about mermaid yes, nice story)
•Full Moon Wo sagashite(about a girl trying trying the change her fate, she will die in a year, she is trying to change that fate)
•Princess Tutu(a duck that turns into girl, also about story telling)
•Pita ten(girl that’s apprenatnce angrl, trying to become an angel, who falls in love with a biy, who befriends a gril that’s the oppiste of her(yeah oppiste of angel)
•Chobits(a robot type of girl that falls in love with a human) kinda of perverted show, see the show you see why.
•Ufo princess Valykrie(funny, a powerful alien girl (age 18) turn’s eight when she gives half of her soul to a human boy(age 17) when she almost kills him. The girl Valkyrie, is in love with that boy. The boy is in love with Valkyire, 17+8 you do the math, kind perverted. See the show and you see why, bout really good story)
