My car has recently been sputtering after I drive for a little while when I accelerate. My manager says it means I have oil on my spark plugs and need new ones...how much will this cost me?

Sorry, i think this needs a little more detail to really give you exact advice. Sputtering can be caused by anything. Spark plugs are possible, but oil on the plugs isn't right, maybe he meant carbon or doesn't know the difference. But you could have cabon build up on the plugs.

Other causes of general sputtering would include bad or expired gasoline ($30 for a new tank of gas), a clogged fuel filter ($50), a dirty air filter ($50), clogged or partially clogged catalytic converter (>$250), bad distributor cap ($100) and/or ignitors (>$250), clogged fuel injector(>$250) or stuck/leaky valves(>$1000).

First of all, the chances of him being right is nil to none. If you have oil on your spark plugs it means that you have low compression and your motor is blown......oil should never foul a plug on a good motor. The only thing touching a plug should be gas and air. Oil stays at the piston rings and below. You might need spark plugs, but it isn't because what he said. Take it to someone who really knows what they are talking about instead of guessing incorrectly. Even if I could tell you it was the plugs, nobody knows what kind of car you have which could be vastly different in the cost to replace plugs.

Your manager must be an auto guru if he can diagnose your cars problem so positively. Your cars engine could be starving for gas or have a vacuum leak, best bet is to have it looked at by a qualified mechanic, save time and money. Plugs run about two dollars each depending on what you buy and how many.
