what ever the reason is, it is totally unfair and unacceptable.

Because many traditional Indians are super-sexist and believe girls are a waste of time and money and are basically worthless.

The attitude is changing in some circles, but overall, India has a huge problem with women aborting girl fetuses and having boys instead. India's male population is actually higher than its female population, which is unlike the population ratios in any normal society.

It's a problem, for sure. Hope they get over that idea!

Wake up... Open your eyes... see the world. In early days, girls were called Lakshmi - The Goddess of wealth in India.

30 years of my age, making visit all around plenty of states in India, co-ordinating with almost all the classes of the Indian society - the rich, the poor, and the middle class; I never saw any family mourn over the fact that they have a girl child...

The birth of a child, girl or a boy, is celebrated equally with the very same rituals and very same excitement.

It's only a matter of what is highlighted in society. In India the the wrongs are highlighted and discussed more that the rights. And people assume that what is being discussed more, is the actual picture....

I THINK YOU ARE STILL WITH THE PAST AND IN ANCIENT INDIA!!!!!!now the present situation had changed completely,child whether it is a boy or girl no matter to their parents they will celebrate the birth,also their is no dis respect towards any female child in India,birth of a female child in a family is celebrated as goddess Lakshmi's avatar in India,girl child will be given proper care and education as the boy child gets.also girls in India are treated respect fully in the society.

Not only in India, but in many other countries, this grave prejudice from patriarchal dominion shamefully exists. Wishing that the mature humanity learn to see the greatness and beauty of gender equality and make radical change for our civilized world.
