My Internet is running very slow, much slower than usual i had a problem before when the web page wasnt displaying at all now it comes up but takes quite a while. Dont know why its suddenly gone like this, i think its a combination between a virus that ive caught and that i just installed Mcafee, but i might be wrong.
I have done disk cleanup and deleted all temporary files and cookies.
Does that phising filtering slow down the internet at all?
Any ideas what the problem is and how i can speed my internet up?

McAfee can slow down a system with min. RAM. However you may just need to clean it up a bit.
A clean computer is key to a faster computer. Run the 3 scans below.
Update and run your Anti-Virus program. Don't have one? You can run a free online scan from CA.
http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspx
Download, update and run Spybot---http://www.safer-networking.org/ . Don't forget to use the Immunize feature.
Download, update and run Adaware---http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/products/select_your_product.php
Now lets clean up your registry.
Download RegScrubXP--http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?d...
Safely cleans junk out of the Windows 2000/XP system registry. All changes made to the registry are fully restorable to it's original condition. You can make an exclusion list of registry entries that RegScrubXP will not display as problems. You can sift through a list of file extensions, company names, run upon startup programs, Internet Explorer history, and uninstall programs to delete what you think is junk.
Download CleanUp---http://www.stevengould.org/software/clea...
Free disk space, make your computer run better/faster and protect your privacy - all in one easy solution. All for free!
Now lets clean up your disk.
Do a Disk Cleanup and Disk Defrag. You can find both of them by following the path below.
Start>all programs>accessories>system tools>Disk Cleanup. Let it do its thing. You can check every box that has something to delete.
Now follow the same path and do a Disk Defrag. Again just let it do its thing.
Now lets tweak your connection.
There are many programs out there to do this. I will give you 2 of them. The first one is TCP Optimizer.
Description: The TCP Optimizer is a free, easy Windows program that provides an intuitive interface for tuning and optimizing your Internet connection. There is no installation required, just download and run.
http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php...
You can get support for the best way to set it up right from their forum http://forums.speedguide.net/
The second one is Cablenut.
Windows XP tested and approved
CableNut is a tool for optimizing your Internet Connection. We have provided a way to tweak any option you may want to in the adjuster. You can load "CableNut Custom Setting" files that are included with the program to tweak your Internet connection.
http://www.cablenut.com/
Again support is available right from their forum.http://www.broadbandnuts.com/index.php?p...
All programs are FREE!
After applying the suggestions above you will have a clean and faster computer. Enjoy.

Best thing to do would be try using the internet with a different computer (if possible). This will make it obvious whether it's YOUR pc that's slowing the internet down, or an actual problem with the line. If you cant do this, then try doing the following: Run Spybot Search and Destroy Run Lavasoft Ad-Aware (free edition) Run CCleaner Delete all private data in Firefox/IE If it still seems slow, definitely contact your internet service provider.

depending on your make of anti-virus,in your case mcafee, and your amount of system memory, this may have a effect on your internet speed
for example,if you have 512mb ram then straight away this will be shrunk to around 300mb taking into account for mcafee and other stuff running in the background so this will leave you around half of what your system claims to have
although software like mcafee and norton do a good job they eat up ram like anything
so a change to another anti-virus may help, avast 4.7(http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html)is a excellent scanner and uses very little system memory thus leaving you with alot more for important tasks
also try a alternative browser such as mozzila firefox(http://www.getfirefox.net/) this may speed up your internet browsing
i have never been a fan of this phising filter, and yes i have noticed how it slows down the loading of pages,so try disabling it and see how it goes, and firefox dosent use a phishing filter, but something similar
good luck mate

that filtering slows it down quite a bit actually. i ended up turning it off. if you have mcafee, you will be fine. just make sure you do a scan every so often. how much space do you have on your hard drive? you might have to get rid of some programs. also do a virus scan. what kind of internet connection do you have? dsl or cable? it might also be your router or your isp. there are many options. hope this helps!

Did it just start running slow today? Because there's a major virus going around right now. Something to do with an e-mail about Fidel Castro. I noticed that I'm running slow today also.

Tell us a bit more....there is not much to go on here. In the first instance try rebooting your modem after disconnecting for a few minutes. try it at a less busy time and then if problem persists contact your isp.
