If you want to buy a cheap one that won't last long, go to Wal Mart, Target, or Sears. but if you want one that will last with a life time guarantee, then spend the money wisely and buy a Rainbow.

Everyone has his/her own opinion - but personally, I like Kirby vacuums. Although new ones cost a fortune, you could get your hands on an older model (generation) for about $200 at your local Kirby service center. Keep in mind that even an older Kirby will have more power than most new vacs. If you are not really a Kirby fan, you may also want to look into Panasonic vacs - they are at the top of your budget - but seem to be pretty good as well.

I HATE HATE HATE my Eureeka VAcuum! stay away from them! It was not cheap, but it certainly works like a 19.99 vacuum!
