i just purchased a audio pa system model pa-b6350 crate and my question is how do i use the xlr inputs on it.

Although primarily designed for balanced audio signals (not just microphones, XLR connectors can also be used for unbalanced connctions. Page 794 of the current Maplin catalogue has a very good description of the use of XlR, and many other, audio connectors.

XLR connectors are used for balanced line, low impedance microphones - ( they use three wires ). However if you have two wire high impedance microphones with phone plugs, you can buy line matching transformers that convert high impedance phone plugs to XLR connectors
