The Missouri Compromise of 1850 and the Kansas-Nebraska Act helped to delay the Civil War for 40 years because it provided some peace between the issue of slavery between the North and the South. The two regions were constantly at war with each other and by passing these acts, the government could delay the two regions from going to war with each other, and much more important, it would help delay any state that wanted to withdraw from the Union.
I hope this answer helps. I just finished covering these two topics and I had to write an essay like this too, so I know how stressed you must be. Good luck!:-)

A good topic sentence? How about, "Henry Clay, held the Union together through force of will and backroom deals".

Wiki up Henry Clay and learn what he did.

Interesting guy who might have been a snake but had his heart in the right place.

First off the Compromise of 1850 didn't postpone the CW for 40 years, the CW started in 1861. I think you're talking about the Missouri Compromise of 1820. Secondly, the N-K Act sort of wiped out the Compromises of 1820 and '50.

It might not sound important to you, but neighbors killed each other over these issues.

The guy behind all this: Henry Clay.

BTW, some folks say that Henry Clay's family owned the ancestors of Cassius Clay, otherwise known as Mohamed Ali.

2 is definitely the Kansas-Nebraska Act. ok and N were earlier certain free territories less than the Missouri Compromise (1820), because both are north of Missouri's southern border. at the same time as the ok-N Act made them open to both slavery or freedom by technique of widely used vote, it spark off a hurry of idealists from both area to settle the territories and settle on them for his or her respective area. This brought concerning the phenomenon of 'Bleeding Kansas', in which bands of both professional-slave and abolitionist settlers might want to attack one yet another to swing the inhabitants in pick of their area. a million is okay-N also. the outline is inapt, because it really in user-friendly words further outrage from northern abolitionists, because the territories were certain free earlier the Act, and now might want to probable bypass slave. yet in user-friendly words the ok-N A placed the slavery question as a lot as difficulty-free sovereignty (vote).
