Its a great day for not only African Americans but America in all. It is great to now have 2 African Americans coaching in the Super Bowl. I know everybody is gonna say it shouldn't be about race. I understand that but for us blacks it is something for us to remember. For a long time. This is not only Black History but America History. Everybody should be loving this right now. NOW after that, when another black coach takes a team to the Super Bowl we can just say Coach blah blah is going to the Super Bowl. Instead of saying third black head coach to coach in a Super Bowl, its legit now.

To all you negative people who say I trying to make it look like a race issue. I"M NOT. I'm just glad that 2 black coaches prove that black coaches can coach a Super Bowl team. Some of y'all need help for real. Its just good to see it for the first time. Now and the future nobody can give everybody a chance instead of using the minority thing.

Why everybody is downing this question? Look the man is not putting race as an issue. IF you look back person didn't believe that a Black coach can't lead a team to a Super Bowl. And now you got 2 black head coaches in the Super Bowl. Doug Williams was the first black QB to win a Super Bowl. People believe that a black QB couldn't do it. But he prove them wrong and created a path. Now you had McNabb and McNair making it to the Super Bowl. Nobody said the 2nd or 3rd black QB to make it to the Super Bowl because it has already been done. Y'all turning this into a negative thing. Its a positive thing. When you the first to do something thats BIG. No matter what. Vanilla Ice was the first white boy to be a mainstream Hip Hop artist. It didn't go well because he was WACK. But when other white rappers came in like Eminem, Bubba Sparxxx, and Paul Wall nobody said the second or third or fourth white rappers. Its just rappers. This is not a race issue. Y'all making the question look bad, and yourself look STUPID. If you read the question and the details, its not a negative question. ALL YOU HAD TO DO IS ANSWER THE DAMN question. YES it is great to see two black coaches in the super bowl. Now this can give everybody a chance to coach, no matter what race he is from as long as hell can coach.

I am not naive to think that race relations in this country are great. They are much better than before, but not great. Having said that, This is about a football game, NOT RACE. I for one couldn't care less that Lovie Smith is black. He is the coach of my favorite team. He just happens to be black. He could be red with purple spots for that matter. I have answered this question a couple of times on this board, and don't see the big deal. What people don't see is that football is the ultimate team sport. No one player can do his job without the other 10 on the field. No one player or coach is bigger than the team. Does being black make Lovie or Tony Dungee a better coach? NO. Should it matter. NO. It's about the biggest football game of the year for these guys. NOT RACE. Even Tony Dungee and Lovie are downplaying it. Both guys have been class acts all the way. While they understand their place in history, they realize it's all about the TEAM.
You want to know why the media keeps bringing stuff like this up? They have to. The african-american population in this country is the only segment of the population they have to do this for. Why? Do you hear anyone yelling that there are no Hispanic head coaches? What about Ron Rivera, the Bears defensive co-ordinator? Is he making a big stink about not getting a head coaching job because he is hispanic? What about Chinese head coaches? Polish? Did you hear anyone jumping up and down when the White Sox won the World Series about how great it was for the Latino population? No, if an african-american does it, they have to make a big deal about it. In this age of political correctness, everyone is afraid to say the wrong thing and do the wrong thing, for fear of not being "sensitive" to the race and differences of others, and therefore being labeled a racist. I say lets just get back to the game of football. I for one can't wait until the Bears take apart the Colts. Go Bears, and thank you Lovie Smith.

I honestly don't understand what the big deal is. The first black head coach, that was a big deal. I don't understand why it's a big deal that a black coach is in the Super Bowl. If anything, I think it's degrading that it's being blown so out of proportion. It's like saying, "They're actually smart enough to coach a good team! Who knew?" Seriously...I don't get it.

I agree with you. This is a big deal and it should not be about color but it's still good to see. I hate when I hear that Blacks are not smart enough to be a coach or QB that is stupidest thing I've ever heard!!! It's too bad we still have all these race issues!!! What ever color or religion you are you are still a human being and if you are the most qualified for a position then that should not make a difference!!!! Not sure what I got a thumbs down for but whatever!!

Don't kid yourself. The media will keep track about the number of black coaches going to a Super Bowl since they believe it to be their job. Personally, I could care less. What I do care about is that they are two good coaches and seem to be fine individuals.

It will be good when things like this are not an issue. But if anything, perhaps we can be glad for those blacks still with us who have lived through REAL racism, segregation, etc, saw things we only read about, and never even fathomed a black person in the NFL in any manner, certainly not coaching the team.

I would say it makes no difference at all. I happy for them but I really don't care what color the coach is. I just want to look forward to a great game.

Hopefully this will create more openings for African Americans in all sports as a coach. That is as long as they are qualified.
