Live in Florida and know that you can find many many... in Orlando look for one attached to the park(s) you want to go to... if not going to parks International Drive is a hot spot.
Caribe Royale
Marriott World Center are both great

Daytona has a real wide range from real dumps up to high end .

Have you thought of Sanibel/Captiva? It is very laid back but romantic and great place to take a gf/wife... http://www.gopherrental.com/rental/south_seas_plantation/ssp.html
this place is all newly re-built after Hurricane wiped it out a couple of years ago

If you describe what things are most important it is easier to reccomend What time of year???.. Beach, Nightlife, Theme Parks,????

You have to give more details than that. there is a resort on every corner.

www.tripadvisor.com
www.orbitz.com

What is your price range?
Daytona was kind of crappy when I was there in December 2005.

I always research on the above sites and then I book on the individula hotels web site. If you have AAA, you can get some good discounts.

Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort in Panama City Beach, FL is very nice and reasonable. It's about 45 min. from Destin.

are you kidding? There are thousands of resort motels in Florida--this is one of the most heavily traveled states in America!

Of your 3 possible destinations, I recommend Orlando as having the most to do (even if you don't go to the theme parks), with Destin in second place--it has lost its small-town appeal due to prolific and on-going luxury condo building but still has beautiful ocean views, and Daytona, in my opinion, is a waste of time unless you like heavy drinking, strip bars, bikers, hookers, bad restuarants, and seedy hotels.

Destin is expensive to stay--Orlando has a lot of great deals and you can find lots of info for either city on their respective city-guide websites: City of Orlando, City of Destin.........

If you are looking for affordable and absolutely beautiful beaches, try my hometown in Florida--Treasure Island in Pinellas County (Tampa Bay area on the West Coast). My favorite hotel to put guests up in is the Bilmar--it is beachfront and has a fabulous beachy restuarant called Sloppy Joe's attached to it--super food and drinks! There is killer shopping and little sandy-foot beach bars for hanging out in. The beach there consistantly ranks in the top 10 beaches in Florida--white sand in a big crescent shaped lagoon. We're real Florida here--no big tourist traps, clean city, warm Gulf water, and romantic sunsets!

My fiance and I met on a beach just north of Treasure Island and we've lived on the beaches here ever since. We love it here. I'll never leave.

Oh yeah, I am a 20 year resident here on Treasure Island and a 5 generation native Floridian. I travel Florida extensively on business and since we're general contractors, I see the good and bad sides of many of the towns here. I wouldn't steer you wrong.

No. Sorry. There are no resort hotels in Florida. Absolutely none.

there are 1000's of hotels in those regions....hence why they call it a tourist area.
