Wuthering Heights. I'm obsessed with that book. It's about a man named Heathcliff, who grows up with a woman named Catherine. They love each other, but Catherine's brother degrades Heathcliff to the point that they can't possibly marry, so Catherine marries another, wealthier man. Heathcliff runs away and amasses a great wealth, then comes back and takes revenge on everyone.

To Kill A Mockingbird - told through a voice of a young girl, Scout, this story is about growing up during the 30's. Her father is a lawyer that defends a black man who is charged with rape. But, that is just part of the story. I loved reading how Scout and her brother, Jem, pull pranks on the neighbor. You watch Scout mature and handle very difficult situations. It's a book I've read over and over and love and get more from every read.

The entire Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan because it is incredibly in depth and the scope is beyond belief. He pays attention to every detail and you get involved with the characters lives, it sucks you right in. It's about three farm boys who get discovered by good guys right before they are found by the bad guys, and the story sort of starts there. They find out why they are being chased, find more enemies and friends along the way, and the characters grow and change. It's one of the reasons it is so immersive, you grow along with the characters. That, and Robert Jordan doesn't define good and bad in black and white, there are gray characters who are after their own ends, it's so much more realistic than most stories. By far the greatest epic fantasy series out there.

Lost Horizon. During WWII, a time of great fear in the Far East, it takes ordinary people on a journey to the mystical and beautiful land of Shanri-la, where the living conditions are ideal and people smile & laugh and treat others well. Even today, the word, Shangri-la, denotes a place of unfathomable beauty

I just finished reading Janet Fitch's "White Oleander"
Ingrid, the main character, is placed in a series of foster homes after her mother is placed in prison for life because she commited a murder.
The first home she is nearly killed
Second home, she practically turned into a slave.
Third home, she is starved and harassed by the other girls
Fourth home, she lives the life of luxury as a movie stars daughter.
Fifth home, she peddles for food and drugs.
It is very wrenching because my childhood is marred by distrubing events and to this day others
never let me forget about events, wheter it is true or not.
