Well, each breed has their own pros and cons, positives and negatives. I suggest doing alot of research, and try to get a puppy with a good upbringing, such as from a responsible breeder.

I myself have Dakota a border collie and staffordshire bull terrier cross and she is the most sweet natured dog who loves kids and babies she even let my friends 1 year old son pull her tail and ears and she did respond but in a lovely way by just licked his hand.
But if you get a dog always make sure you can meet the parents of the pup and see for yourself what their temperament is like Dakotas mum was laid back and her father was a bit boisterous and she can be both depending on if she is in a play full mood or not but It is mainly how you, yourself bring up the puppy. There should be good breeders out there that raise puppies in a environment where they are around children all the time and when you do get a pup it helps to know that they have been around children before and also It is not the breed but the temperament of the pup and its parents temperament that you look for.

Labradoodle, go on the web have a look. Patient well-behaved, used for dogs for the disabled. It's a cross between a Labrador and a Poodle first bred for guide dogs for people with allergies to dog fur. Loves kids.
They are gorgeous.

A Golden Retriever and Labrador mix. I know that here in Ireland these are the dogs they use the most for Guide Dogs. They have a very good temperament. Good Luck.

I am rather biased, as I breed & show Collies...
But if you can find a reputable Collie breeder in your area, they are wonderful, sweet, patient pets. You may want to consider a Smooth as they are much easier to care for than a Rough. They have short hair as opposed to long.
Of course, there are other wonderful breeds out there too! Labs & Retrievers & even some small dogs like Shi Tzus are very sweet & loving.
Good luck!

One of the very best dogs for children is a pug. They are patient and smart, also they don't "break "as easily as a smaller dog like a pom, and are easier to handle as a puppy then a large breed like a lab. They can have lots of congenital problems, however, (breathing problems is a main one) but if you get a good breeder, or even a healthy cross breed, then that shouldn't be as issue. Once you have a healthy pet, be sure to watch his/her weight carefully, pugs get fat easily. Have fun with your new pet!!

Being an owner of 2 Collie Crosses, Golden Labradors are known to be loving, gentle and have a good sense of their owners. They are known to be trusted around children. I have also heard that springer spaniels are a also a gentle breed being fun, gentle and have a liveliness until the day they die.

My family has always had Staffordshire Bull terriers. A lot of people are intimidated by their gruff appearance but they have the sweetest dispositions. I have a little sister who is disabled and she used to be quite rough with our dog, but he never ever growled. Staffs are medium sized, short haired, require very little grooming or too much exercise. They are extremely loyal, excellent guard dogs and generally even-tempered. They are quite powerful and can be a bit insecure. Our current dog is terrified of Christmas crackers! Talk to a breeder, whatever breed you choose. See how you and your little one respond to the adult dog. That will give you the best indication.

Best of luck finding the perfect friend for your little boy!

I have an Astralian Sheperd/Border Collie mix..........she is wonderful and VERY patient. They are very smart dogs and a one family dog. Like all puppies they love lots of exercise! She is a medium sized dog. You could have the two of them try dog agility. Animals are great for autistic children. A very good friend of mine gives horse-back riding lessons to an autistci girl and she does great!!!

it all depends onm what your little boy likes. do some research and give him some choices out of the dogs you think would work...all these answers are going to be biased (sp?) including mine so do some of your own research. remeber let the little boy choose a dog that gets along with him- just go to the pet sotre and whateva dog seems to be really attached with him get
( i kno my lil bro gets atached with animals very easily he is 8 now but we have learned if you let him choose his own animal he loves it sorta more and takes care of it alot more if he has bonded with it) in my opion labs, golden retrievers, maltese, yorkies, terriers ect are good dogs to choose from
