Well, the "things u cant do on it" would be home brew. this allows you to run emulators and use old games and other cool things.. I am an idiot for upgrading because the newest psp firmware version cant be downgraded yet. they just figured out how to downgrade v 2.8 . i got 3.03. v1.5 is the best one and is probably the one you want but good luck getting one that low.. 2.6 or 2.8 will probably be what it comes with. Be ware, however, the psp is vulnerable to viruses and trojans if it is downgraded. and u will not have and internet browser. a homebrew internet browser may work better? also, sony will not cover it under warranty if you "brick" your system. and most games require you to have a higher firmware version

As far as I've seen, the latest PSP firmware updates add visualizer effects when listening to songs and PS3 ~ PSP connectivity.

If you're resourceful enough, there are... ways around like, like custom firmware installs.
