Get a dvd cleaner system and clean it also get a can of compressed air and open the tray and blow it out. Clean all of your cds and dvds before you play them in your drive. Should work.

Ask any workstation restore save to scrub the lense of your DVD author or purchase new one in one thousand rs bot verify till now finding out to purchase that ur workstation help SATA or IDE(if greater effective than 5yrs older)

all cds or burned ones? do you play your cds with windows media player or some other software? have you done a windows update lately? I need some more information. e-mail if you want.

Welcome to what happened to me, shortly it wont be able to do that either or writte on cd's. Ur drive is screwed up and u r gonna have to get a new one. I think its physical damage
