While I loved both the Dolphins and the Steelers of the seventies and the 49ers of the 80s and early 90s, I have to say that I honestly don't think there is ANY team in Superbowl history that would have had a snowball's chance in Hell of defeating the 1985 Chicago Bears. Screw your "undefeated," screw your "iron curtain," screw your "Montana magic," screw your "Belichick the genius" and your "Jimmy Johnson Cowboys."

That one team, the '85 Bears, was as close to the perfect football machine as God will allow imperfect humans to achieve, that one year, they could have beaten ANYONE!

I'd say '85 Bears. Yeah sure... fins went undefeated and thats very impressive, but they didn't destroy opponents or played as exciting the way that Bears team did. I was like 16 at the time and remember, even if not from Chicago, how exciting it was to watch that team. It was like how people watch NASCAR for the accidents... you just waited for that defense to pound a quarterback. Their Superbowl was the most fun to watch of any I have seen in my 36 years watching football too.

For sheer dominance in a season, I would say the 72 Dolphins.

For sheer dominance in a game, I would say the 85 Bears.

'72 Dolphins - had to play from week 5 to the halftime of the AFC Championship game with the back up QB, as Bob Griese broke his leg against the Chargers.

Only team to ever go undefeated, 17-0.

One of only two teams to ever lead the league in scoring and also give up the fewest points on defense.

Had to play the AFC Championship game on the road at Pittsburgh

And despite all this, they were still not respected, and were actually underdogs in the Super Bowl against Washington

Would have recorded a shut out in the Super Bowl if Garo Yepremian does not attempt to throw that infamous pass

Don't get me wrong I'm no Bear's fan. This year I'm pulling for Dungy, Manning and the boys in blue..... but when you talk about the greatest SB team ever.......

You know how people like to talk about what will happen when the "irresistible force" meets the "immovable object?"

Well for me the 1985 Chicago Bears were BOTH the "irresistible force" AND the "immovable object." They represent one of the few times that using the word "awesome" is actually appropriate.....
