Why won't they. They sell live crickets and meal worms. They sell feeder fish! Dog food and cat food is made from animal parts. But they won't sell feeder mice. As a resident of Gulfport, Mississippi I have to go about 30 minutes to Ocean Springs to find feeder mice because our only really good pet store got washed away with Katrina and the only thing that is left is Petsmart, and it pisses me off that they won't sell mice as feeder mice (Unless you want to buy a $6 mouse for your snake, then just dont tell them it's snake food). Is it just because mice are cute and furry like Stewart the mouse or something, and I even saw my Patsmart sell a few small snakes but yet you still can't buy their food there! What's the deal.

It's guessing that it's partly because of the perception of cruelty to animals and partly to protect themselves (in the case someone feeding live prey, the prey can injure/kill the predator; in the case of lizard-eating reptiles, there's the possibility that parasites can be transferred).

Some of the pet stores are having customers sign a statement that any live animal they buy (mice, rats, gerbils, hamsters, guinea pigs, anoles, and house geckos, anyway) will only be used for keeping as pet to be able to purchase them.

You should know that frozen work just as well. There are internets sites where you can order frozen feeders in a greater quantity and/or range of sizes than you can find in even the chain pet store. They will cost less than in a pet store and will be delivered to your house.

I don't know. Do you mean live ones? Do they sell frozen ones?

That does seem kinda hypocritical. I don't go to Petsmart myself since the only one is far away and when I went there, it was all loopy and loud and bright and it made me feel kinda overwhelmed. It's like Wal-Mart for pets.

Maybe you can raise your own or something.

My petsmart sells frozen ones in all different sizes. My snake still only eats pinkies, but they sell them in a 3 pack and I buy a bunch of them at once to avoid having to go to the store so much!

Cruelty to animals. Is there not a pet shop around your area that has re-opened, because that is the only place I have ever found that sells feeder mice for snakes.
