start up a conversation about the weather. this actually happened to me the other day while I was in San Francisco visiting my mother. here's how the conversation went
me: "Good day sir. Those are some fine smears you have there."
him: "Why thank you. I'm in a group celebrating the right to show one's cheeks within a free society."
me: "Why, that's wonderful. You're a true patriot. Fine weather we're having, isn't it?"
him: "Oh yes, wonderful! The fog cleared away on Tuesday and it's been beautiful since then."
me: "Oh, no wonder, I had just arrived on Wednesday. I guess the weather really went my way, eh?"
him: "Seems like it! So would you like to join our cheek movement?"
me: "Oh, no, I'm really quite busy. College is tough."
him: "Amen. I can tell you all about when I went to college back in the 60's.... but I'll let you on your way"
me: "Alright then, sir. Good day to you!"
Of course, this is just a normal day in San Francisco.
