She might just be ashamed, or perhaps shes just a flake. One thing this life has taught me is that you do your best to never lend money to friends. I've seen many a friendship ruined by it.

First of all I wouldn't have given a friend money, I would have bought food for her kids and IF the kids needed to get somewhere (doctor appointments) I'd offer to take her.
Second I don't help someone out expecting to get anything in return. She is probably avoiding you because she is embarassed that she can't pay you back...what kind of a friend does that make YOU? Helping someone out doesn't include the expectation of getting something back or being acknowledged for your help. If you don't like that fact then don't help anyone else in the future.

Loaning money is the fastest way to find out who your friends are. As a rule, I never loan money to friends. Most of the time, if they don't pay you back you are mad at them and the friendship is over. Everyone has a sad story somewhere. Sounds like, Good luck getting your money back though. It is just up to you now, do you forgive and forget or just forget about them and the friendship and move on.

First, How good of a friend was she in the first place? If she was a good friend she probably feels bad for not being able to pay you back and her pride is getting in the way of telling you upfront.

People really get funny, and defensive when the ego is bruised.

Good Luck,

Maybe she is ashamed of her situation if you are better off than her? Tell her its fine, everyone has their down times and she will come out of it you will be there for her.. she still ignores you then..... Not a real friend

I'm reminded of this one saying, Don't lend money to friends, for you will lose them both.
