I know how violence in videogames can cause violence in real life, but why am I, or most other people my age, not seemingly affected by them?

I am referring to the age bracket of 13- 17.

games are not the cause if there raised right. and this is the same thing movies and comics went though before. it jerks like JACK THOMSON and parents that saw what happened at Columbine it scared them with good reason but those kid where already missed up before they played a game also i think that the parents should take some of the blame that's why they blame the games so they don't have to take the blame when if the parents had took some time to talk to there kids this mite not have happened but until the parents own up to there part this will never end. so sit down with your kids talk to them see whats going on with them and if they seem upset but don't tell you check up on them. also it was the person that pulled the tigger not the game. and no games do not make peploe killers unless they allready have problems then its not a good idea

You are not unaffected by them. They've been proven to desensitize young people and old alike to even the most vicious acts. The people subjected to careful studies of their psychological response were shown to have been affected by violent videos and video games even when they themselves didn't realize it. Knowing this, the United States Armed Forces now use such technology deliberately to demonize and dehumanize target populations so that soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines can (supposedly) kill more efficiently and without the mental trauma that has characterized combat veterans in the past. It does appear at times to make it easier for them to kill, but it does NOT protect them from PTSD afterwards...I don't give a rip what sort of propaganda you subject people to, killing another person sears the soul. It is NOT fun, exciting, thrilling or easily justified and swept under the rug. Major General William T. Sherman was right when he described combat thus: "Boys, it is all H e l l"

It can. Of course it is not a guarantee, but the odds would say yes. Violent video games are designed to require that you increase your adrenaline level and keep it high if only to keep your reflexes ready for the coming "villains." That requires you to keep yourself excited, possibly even angry, in order to be able to handle the game. Once you have quit playing the game, your adrenaline level should still be up for a while, and that means you will handle real life fairly aggressively for some time even after the game is over. That is likely to lead to more violence since one is responding to situations aggressively. The likelihood of violence rises if one person is aggressive, because now it leaves nearly all responsibility to the other people around you, some of whom are probably as little responsible as the one who has high adrenaline at the time.

because the game just desensitize you to violence and it becomes more acceptable.
you probally are affected in the way that bullying and fights seem ordinary- even expected.

the more desensitized you become the more you not only condone violence but the more you could become violent and see it as acceptable. it may take a certain situation- like someone insulting you - to bring out violence but you are more apt to have that vilent behavior come out after you have been desensitized by violence.

those whom are not 100% mentally well, aren't only desensitized but think violence is the right thing and is perfectly acceptable. they could use the video games as directions to commit violent acts.

people have doen studies that after viewing hoor movies for five days straight and then hearing stories about rape and violence the viewers (all male) were more accepting and indentified more with the attacker after day 5, than before day 1.
these men may not have gone out to commit crimes later, but their tolerance can be just as bad as their actions

Because your an intelligent guy just like most people in your age bracket. Unfortunately there people out there that need to make excuses for everything that goes wrong in life. There were serial killers, rapists, and other criminals long before video games were around. There are people that are mentally unstable in any environment and can't be trusted to watch a clown in a dunk tank and will always blame others for their poor grasp on reality.

Most people are raised to have a conscience, and we are affected by what we see and play. Turning to violence is one of the ways the few go.

I expect you know that fantasy and reality are different, that may be one reason you have not been affected the way others have.

They are NOT the cause of violence.
I don't recall any video games in my history books when all the wars and conquering was going on... Hmm...only religions. Connection?
Everyone is programmed to blame someone or something else for their actions. It's ONLY the individual's choice!!! Not anything else.
Is it the car's fault for the accident? Maybe it's the movies that have car chases and accidents that caused it.
No!!! It's all on the driver.

i don't know, i guess young people see it just as a form a entertainment, but the real life violence can be avoided by the parents talking to their kids, or not letting them even play it untill they are of age to know that it should not affect their understanding of good morals and save that violence for the game...and if you ask me, the damn game is based on real life things for example mortal combat (fighting, kun-gu, karate), grand theft auto(serial killers and robbers), and war games (war in iraq)...

it doesn't seem like it, but that stuff gets into your unconsious and slids in there subliminaly. if you examine yourself, you won't think there's anything wrong with you. but then it slips out little by little.

and think about---if they caused immediate violence, don't you think the videogame companies would stop making those games. but since the reactions are slow and unnoticable, no one believes violenced is caused and they continue to buy the games. and hey, as long as the video game companies are making money, that's all that matters to them.

It's just for some reason we don't pick up bad things. Some older people don't understand that everyone is violent. Some think we're not mature enough. I hate that!
