It's one of my favorite movies too and I see many young kids wearing Tony Montana aka Al Pacino on their shirts and if you watch cribs or listen to some rap many rappers idolize Tony Montana.

It is more than the 'bad guy' image, it is more than advocating a particularly violent disco-era movie, too.

Tony Montana has become an iconic example of the thug who starts with nothing, lives by his own brass balls, never backs down, full of street smarts that appeals to young men. He comes to America with literally nothing, breaks into the drug business by sheer force of will and opportunism, guns down his own boss after being double crossed, gets the gorgeous skinny blond, kills with no compunction.

It is the gangsta image personified, democratized, glorified. Too bad more don't see the underlying morality tale underneath the guns' a-blazin'.

But realize this kind of iconification has gone on for as long as Hollywood has been extolling the violent gangster - back to Brando and further.

Best to you.

scarface is a great movie. it's deep emotionally, interesting intellectually, and to top it all off it's violent, vulgar, and has tons of action. that's why it's so popular. good movie.

people love a hard luck story. rags to riches! it does not matter to most that he was nothing but a disgusting drug dealing pukeoff. what is sad are the wanna be thugs that attempt to emulate him.
