Day for Night is tough for the pros. Worse for you- here is how they do it when they have to.

Filters, Awnings/Coverings, Using Natural Elements.

You can try placing filters over the camera to change the amount of light let in- try experimenting with light gels (cellophane), women's hosiery (don't get weirded on me- this used to be a staple of film making on the low budget- even night of the living dead used it), anything.

Try having a heavy tarp, or if you have the means- plywood...something that will block the direct light in your shot. Even in a small area- it can do wonders for closeups.

Natural elements- in a heavily wooded area, or in a ravine- even late afternoon can start looking dark. use that to your advantage.

If its an exterior scene then you pretty much need to shoot at night. If it's an interior scene and you need to make it look like night you can use light filters- that make it look like its dark outside.

I'm not sure but try night vision. If it's not clear and too bright, your going to have to shoot at night anyway.
