Sudsey ammonia--get at any grocery store! Soak overnight and, if needed, scrub with a VERY soft brush to get stuck-on particles off the underside of the stone or anything caught in the gallery (mounting). Works like a charm!

Only use this method on hard non-porous gemstones like diamonds, sapphires, tanzanite---not on pearls, turquoise, etc.

Toothpaste does not work well at all since it contains abrasives which will scratch and dull the stone's surface over time and will certainly dull the finish of the metals. I wouldn't use something made to scrape plaque off my teeth to clean an expensive gemstone--but hey, that's your choice.

I agree w/ allie---white vinegar also does a nice job.

Hi Ya Soak the diamond in thick solution of washing up liquid over night then clean with toothbrush then rinse with warm water polish with soft cloth. It will really sparkle and does not harm metal or diamond. Got this tip from a jewellers. It really works
Hope this helps

Jewellers rouge with a soft cloth ,or a very fine and soft brush.Toothpaste should not be a preferred choice ,even though it works. It is rather abrasive on jewelry for the most part and, not to wise for fine and precious metals or gems. Also, if the toothbrush has hard brussels it will most likely loosen yours gems from their settings .I say ditto ,to Philip's answer. He indefinitely knows what he is talk- in about. but, Personally I prefer white jewellers rouge over mild soap.It makes metals and precious stones glisten to their fullest.

A lot of jewelers (especially where the diamond was purchased) will do a cleaning free of charge.

Toothpaste.

A baby toothbrush helps get into smaller areas.

Makes your jewelry sparkle and shine.

Toothpaste.

You'd be surprised how clear it looks. Brush the diamond like you brush your teeth with regular toothpaste.
