I have dozens of reptiles and other exotic pets. The best advice I can give you is too make sure you have regular contact (w/o stressing) with your pet. He will grow accustomed to you over time. It is also worth mentioning that a small percentage of reptiles never really become fully comfortable with being handled.

I'm going to assume you have a bearded dragon. The answer is based on that.
You have only had him for a month, he is probably just getting settled in. It takes time and patience to get them used to you handling them. First thing I always make sure with dragons is that their husbandry is correct. If it isn't then they might never be happy. If husbandry is correct, the best advice I was given when mine was jumpy. Close to lights out time, start by putting your hand in the tank. If that makes him jumpy start there and keep doing that until he becomes ok with your hand in there. Once that happens, gradually move your hand closer every day until you can touch him without him flipping out. Slow cautious movements are the best. When you try to pick him up, make sure you scoop him from underneath, if you go from above he might view you as a predator and run away.

Feel free to email me if you want me to go over your husbandry, feeding etc. Chances are if you got him from a pet store they fed you a bunch of misinformation and probably sold you things like calci-sand or repti-bark both of which can be fatal to a dragon.

i have a water dragon who is only 7 months old and they are very jumpy especially to start with. I make sure that every day she gets used to my hand being in the viv and strking her gently and use a calming voice if she looks scared...it really works!!!

I also try and hold her quite often outside of the cage. If she runs away I dont put her straight back in but calm her down again. You should also pet them just after you place them back.

You need to keep at it to get them used to you it can take a while to get them used to your hand but it will work.

Good luck
