Yes that happened to me as well. I took the test 3 days before i even missed my period and it was negative. but i knew something was wrong. So i took the test again in 2 days and it was positive.
I believe that the pregnancy test tests for a chemical that is released in the body when your egg gets fertilized. That chemical is what is detected in the urine test. I am not sure how long ago you think you may have conceived but if it was 2 weeks ago maybe the chemical have not showed up in you urine as yet. If you strongly feel that you are with child your gyn can give you a ultrasound the one that they put inside of you vagina.
Congratulations if you are.

Yes, it is possible and although very rare it happened to me. I was on birth control pills at the time but also had been very sick with a stomach virus so I was throwing up alot. I was also on other types of medicines too. But something told me I could be pregnant, I took a hpt as early as possible and it was negative. I still was not convinved so I waited a few more weeks and tried again. Negative, and still did not have my period. I was two months late. I called my doctor and she would not see me. She said try another brand of hpt then call back for an apt. When it said negative I was still in such a panic that I drove myself to a free clinic in another city. They confirmed the pregnancy and I aborted my baby.
My story had a very tragic ending. I sometimes feel if my doctor would have believed me or taken me more seriously that I would have been seen by them and never resulted to having an abortion.
Blood tests are the best way to know and an ultrasound can always confirm a second heart beat.
We women know our bodies better than anyone.

You can have a false 'negative' test but never a false 'positive' test (Because the test will only show positive if it detects a certain hormone and you can only have the hormone if you're pregnant).
If you don't have enough of the hormone yet then it won't show and the test will be negative. If you think you are - and you know best - then leave it a few days and do another.

I had 2 negative pregnancy tests with my second daughter, it was only when I went to the Dr for a smear and she said my womb felt 'bulky' that I did a 3rd one and it came back positive!
Try again in a day or 2, Good luck!

I've been pregnate 6 times with the result of 3 living children. Each test I took always was positive. I have not ever had a false negative. I have even taken tests early which resulted in a positive result.

False negatives, especially early in the term, are VERY common. It depends on the test you are taking and how sensitive it is. Try again in a few days or a week. On the other hand, false positives are quite uncommon, so if any test gives you a positive - you're most likely expecting.

I got a negative ONE month after late... and, eight months later, had a boy! Sometimes your hormones may be raging so much that the test reads wrong. Try again - or go to doc for a blood test.
