I'm 34 and I had been a software developer for the last 10 years. I was pondering what I really want to do with my life. I thought long and hard and I really want to become a doctor and help people who are suffering. I already have a BS in BA and I'm currently taking the pre-med science classes. I will be 36 when I apply for med schools. Is 36 too old to get into this field?

No... You're not too old! I'm a med student myself (although I'm in the UK and not the US), and I see MANY mature students, some with children who are full time mothers, and they do well enough themselves. There is no reason why you shouldn't be able to enrole on a course.

The only thing you should be wary of is that the older one is, the more difficult it becomes to absorb the information (we were told this at the beginning of the course). In this case, although you have experience in obtaining a degree in the past, you may find it difficult to adjust.

It's nice to see a fellow person deciding to do Medicine because they genuinely want to help others! Good luck in your studies and I hope everything goes well for you!

Age Limit For Medical School

No, its not that old. Schools take "non-traditional" students all the time. But you better have great grades and a high MCAT, plus you'll have to do a lot of convincing that you really want to be a Dr. Just think about it, you will be 36 starting school. you'll graduate at 40, and then do 4 years of residency. So you'll be a real dr at 44! I guess you can make the argument that you still have another good 20 years left, and you don't want to waste them! I know a girl that applied at age 31. She was a budweiser model, and now she's an anesthesiology resident.

There's talk of an unwritten age limit for med schools. Primarily because it takes so long to be a doctor, the med schools want to admit people who still can help the community for a good amount of time since the med school slots are so rare.

34 should still be ok though.

there is not any medical college interior the army. ALL militia docs went to a public medical college. you could connect the militia as a doctor. you additionally can pass in and request preparation as a medic. Serving in a conflict isn't required, yet you could artwork in a militia wellness center close to a conflict zone. in case you have an activity in turning out to be a doctor, take the three years of required college classes in technology and existence sciences then take the MCAT, then practice. the militia will pay on your med college in case you compromise to serve some years afterwards.
