Poloticians like to think they know what we the people want as a congressional head. But I want to know what the people want in a President? I'm not asking for a specific person, but traits and actions we want to see in someone in office.

Ideally only, because it is unfair and unrealistic to expect Presidents to be perfect people, an outstanding President would have a proven work record of effective problem-solving, experience in facilitation and mediation, comprehends the U.S. Constitution, appreciates pluralism and can unify all people around an objective common ground (not a singular set of subjective "virtues"), profound and proven respect for all humanity and life, a global vision that encompasses the future and not merely short-term nationalistic goals, Renaissance thinking abilities, or, the cognitive prowess to synthesize the concepts from multiple disciplines and fields of knowledge and belief systems, and the wholesome passion to lead.

My ideal may not be yours. Actually, I do not have much of a problem with President Bush. I like him because he stands his ground, doesn't cower in to the polls, or stuff like that. I am a believer that our President should be a Man, just as the head of a household should be a Man. (I had a good example in my Dad) He should be concerned for the security and safety of the Nation. He should be a Man of his word. He should be a faithful husband and good father. He should be a down to earth guy, not aloof. Yet, someone who commands respect. He must have his priorities straight, as i believe our current leader does.

Someone who isn't a member of any political party, and therefor not obligated to follow a polarized opposing viewpoints system. They should be active in working with all levels of government (from local to global) and should be adamant about getting the best and brightest (not the most loyal) to fill appointee positions.

Personally, I want an elected leader who is a little smarter and a little better suited for high office than me. To be absolutely candid, this notion that Bush/Clinton/Whoever makes a great leader because he'd be a blast to have a BBQ with, holds no weight with me.

I would definitely not mind it if was someone with a little integrity and an open mind; interested in people instead of interested in condemning them to their social/economical/racial positions/etc. man or woman is not so much the point for me, except that most of the presidents so far-all male-have proved to be hopelessly inadequate with regards to many many women in the U.S.
someone who-regardless of financial/family background-has worked hard to get where he/she wants to be.

A leader who makes tough choices and doesn't apologize for them.
Intergity someone I can trust.
When things do go bad he doesn't try to blame others or cry victim.

We need someone with a vision of the future and the leadership to get us going that way. We need someone who does not base his policy on religion. We need someone how is financially responsible. We need someone with humility and integrity. We need someone who can pronounce common words and will not regularly embarrass us. We need a leader, not a lackey of oil and religious fanatics.
