'The Dole' is a slang expression for the financial assistance you receive in the UK when you are unemployed. At the moment the correct term for this is Job Seeker's Allowance. If you are unemployed and not actively seeking employment - if you have a small baby to look after for example - then you would receive Income Support rather than JSA.

You mean the dole in the UK ? The dole was just another term for Unemployment Benefit: the money the Government gives to people who are out of work. We still have it but unemployment has been much worse in the past.

Incidentally, to get Unemployment Benefit you have to fill out a form called a UB40, which is where that band got its name from.

This is a term given to the pittance that the indigenous population gets from the government social services. It's a handout to try to keep us quiet because migrants have taken the work away from us and they think we wont notice as long as we have enough money to buy the basic needs..
The out of work people are not idle, they have no option because the government subsidises companies to take on forieign workers because they are driving down wages. In my home town locals have been sacked and Romanians taken on in their place. Is this fair, and now some are calling them idle, it makes me spit !!!!
