I often wonder why we are here, there all tons of answers people will tell you based on their religious preference, but i wonder Why are we here, why do we live a purposeless life. We were somehow put upon this planet but for what? If your lucky you will get a well paying job and have a nice family, that doesn't matter in the greater scheme after your dead does the universe change, did you have an effect upon the universe? Personally unless you are one who can find the answers as to why we are here and what our purpose is then your life meant nothing. It seems that the one who created the planet, and the entire universe is doing it to play a game to watch us live boring, pointless, repetitive lives; just to die and watch it start over in a new person. Can anyone help me understand why we are even here, we could all die right now and what would happen?

Technically life's purpse is to keep life going. Not neccessarily you but your children. Your only reason for being here is to spread your genetic material as much as possible, and see that those offspring survive long enough to sread it even further. Unfortunately, for the human brain this is a hard concept to accept. We do not want to hear that we have no real purpose. Its unfortunate, because in reality accepting this idea frees us to make our own purpose. If you accpet that you are going to die and that you will cease to exist as a living organism then it is easier for you to find happiness in whatever your brain "programming" finds amusing. So, your purpose is what you make it. Just try to live happily, that is all that you can do. Do what makes you feel good, and your life will be enjoyable, you only have so much time so use it wisely. Don't waste time worrying about how your life isn't as meaningful metaphysically as you wish it was, spend your time doing what makes you feel happy and good. Life is pointless metaphysically, but it is meaningful to you, so live it to your best requirements.

You're looking in a small area for a purpose that encompasses a huge sphere. Each life adds to the whole. Each of us who can do something positive or invent something useful or make someone else feel good is contributing to the whole of mankind. Over time, given enough positive impacts, the entirety of the human kingdom will be lifted up higher and higher until one day the planet will have found its way of creating heaven on earth.

I understand life can seem arbitrary & meaningless (especially when bad things happen beyond our control) but life does have meaning. I won't go into my feelings on God & creation etc etc since you sound resistant to it but however you happen to believe we got here, it is a miracle. Our lives are extraordinary. We must make the most of it. Do things that you enjoy. Love yourself & others. Be happy. However long you are here. Whether you believe in an afterlife or not. You might as well have a good time while you're here. Follow your dreams, whatever they may be. & don't give up. I believe in an afterlife, but even if you don't, you will be remembered after you're gone. Those who know & love you will remember you & your life does matter.

If you feel life has no purpose then chances are you don't love yourself, you're not taking care of yourself, you're not doing things you enjoy. When you live with passion then you give life meaning. It's up to you. For me, it's art & music, for someone else it may be sports or cooking or fixing cars, but everyone has something that they enjoy & that they're good at. Whatever it is, do it! If you're enjoying yourself then that's meaning enough!

Chin up. Look at the bright side of life. I know it's hard. I have to follow this advice myself...

You are asking the same question that has been asked from the beginning of time itself.
I found in my own life that I had to answer the inner spirit of myself in order to obtain any meaning to this life.
I often say that purpose, meaning and fulfillment are three of the cornerstones of happiness.
For me the fourth was my religion.
I write, sing southern gospel music and try to help others.
While I understand that I can not change the world it is my prayer that I can at least make my small part of this world a better place for my having been here.
Good luck on your journey.

Because you see no purpose in life, the only purpose in life that we see is the purpose that is expressed by the Media.
Make money, look like they want you to.
All you have to do for life to have purpose again, is find something in life that gives you purpose, something that inspires you and breaths life into you.
I can't tell you why we are here because no-one really knows.
All we can do is find a purpose for us, one purpose for someone is not the same as another.

why are we even hear - to give glory to God and live in the name of Jesus Christ.

We could all die right now, so that is why you have to live each day like it's your last. My new favorite word for 2007 is ENJOY. This may sound stupid, but I have to TELL myself to enjoy things. I can be kind of pessimistic about things, wondering why i even care, but that's no way to live life. You have to view life as a gift. Looking at each situation and acknowledging what about that situation you like WHILE you're in the moment. Sounds weird. but it works. :)
