Well, not speaking from having done it but based on knowledge of what bleach is and how a car engine works i can say the following..

The bleach would mix with the gasoline in the tank and make it's way into the engine. But being corrosive the bleach will probably start to eat away at any rubber seals or gaskets in and around the gas tank and the gas hoses leading into the engine. Once in the engine the bleach would probably lower the explosive properties of the gas simply by dilution so the car would probably run very poorly. Of course the bleach would also eat away any rubber on the valves and injectors and move on to the seals around the pistons, if it successfully damages the seals on the pistons it will get into the oil and cause problems there. During the combustion process the bleach will be vaporized and be passed through the exhaust system and probably damge the catalytic converters on the way out before settling and recondensing on the rear bumper where it will eat away the paint on the bumper.

Hey, I'm blonde, female and even I know this answer. Car will not go!!!!!!!
If you are cleaning the petrol/gas tank you have to use the correct flushing products.
Use the wrong chemicals in this situation you could cause yourself a lot of problems, breathing in toxic fumes, explosion etc.
If you are wanting to clean tank out go to Auto Shop or Car Mechanic and get expert advice.
Do not play around with what you don't know or understand, as that is how innocent people as well as yourself can get hurt.

Same thing that would happen with water in the tank. It wouldn't run since bleach is not combustible.

I would not do it on purpose. Chlorine bleach is mostly water and that does not belong in your gas tank. The part that is not water can't possibly do anything any good.

you are going to have to drain the tank , do not attempt to start the engine , as you do not want this sucked up into the ignition , as long as it is all out should be o.k. after it is dry
