Yes. To be 100% sure have a blood pregnancy test done by your Dr to check the change in hcg levels. Its more accurate than any at home test.

Yes, almost any test can give a false positive or false negative. However, for the test to be of any use at all, the false negative and false positive rates are usually quite low (~ 1-2%).

If you believe you have a false result, the best thing to do is to test again, preferably with a different type and/or brand of test.

A few factors can give you false positives. Sometimes there is what is called an evaporation line it will be sort've purple or black in color with an indention. Also, if you take fertility treatments. They can contain hcg so can give you a positive. The last one and most common is not following the directions. If you wait more than 10 minutes to read the result it can cause an evaporation line as well. Follow directions to a t. Either way, if it is positive always act as if you are pregnant and take prenatals. If you go to the doctors and find out you are pregnant they will not hurt you (in fact doctors suggest taking them if you are trying) but if you are they will definitly be a benefit. It's more likely to get false negatives than positives.

I think some of these answers are confusing the question and thinking you are talking about false negatives. I have heard that false positives have occurred, but they are very rare. The best thing to do if you are unsure about the first result is to take a second test, preferably with a different brand in case there is a problem with one particular brand. You can always ask your Dr. to do a blood test, which not only measures if you have the hcg hormone in your body, but how much of it.

I had a very faint 2nd line when I used First Response. I called the doctor to check about getting a blood test. She said it was just a formality and that the faint line was an absolute positive. She even called in prenatal vitamins. I took the blood test on friday - sunday I had my period (albeit a week late).

So yep. You can have a false positive.

No. Home pregnancy tests can give false negatives, but not false positives. They measure the level of a certain hormone in your body.

Everything is possible.. but it is very unlikely for a test to be FAlse Positive.... unlike the False Negative.. which are very common... so I would take another.. the chances that 2 test will be false postive are slim to none.. :-) and if you are still unsure.. your Dr. Can tell you for sure..

Good Luck!!!

Yup. It's happened to me before. I always suggest that you take 2 at home tests... this way your sure if you get 2 positives and 2 negatives or worse case senerio you get one of each and then you should go to the doctor and get tested for real.

Yes but it is very rare, it will more likely tell you that you are not pregnant when you are than the other way around. Home pregnancy test are quite accurate.

Yes. If it is negative, it means you are not pregnant. But if it says positive, it means that there is a possibility that you are. It is not a definite. You(or who ever took the test) should go to the doctor if it says positive.
