I live in Michigan now as well. Areas that use salt on the roads or are rich in agriculture are horrible for you car. Obviously the paint is there to protect the bare metal and provide a nice finish. If you wash your car once a week that is good. Do you wax your car? A good investment is to get a power washer. An electric one will work great. Power wash the whole car and especially the underside. Put a good coat of wax on it and that should help. The problem with rust is that it does not stop once it starts. It can be slowed down but not stopped. Just make sure you keep it as clean as you can. Maybe you can look into using a rubberized undercoating for the bottoms of the doors on the inside. Is the rust at the bottoms of the doors in little rock chip spots or is the paint bubbling? If it's little rock chip spots then I wouldn't worry too much. Try to scrape it out as best you can and put some touch up in there. Good luck...

three thing might be.

1 it was rusted and painted over.
2 the previous owner has it close to the ocean shore.
3 the salt used in the street for snow control purposes is affecting it ( which I doubt)

if the spots started out from small rock chips then you will have to clean them good and touch them up any parts store can get you the paint kit that comes with the brush in the lid. if not from rock chips then take it to the dealer because it should have a rust through warranty.

Paint contamination consists of tiny metal shavings from rail dust, brake dust and industrial fallout. then it oxidizes then it rusts to leave rust spots on your car. to get rid of it you can use a clay bar. you wash you car then you use the clay bar then you wax it.

Rinse the fenders and under as much as you can. This will get most of the salt from the road off. Make sure you wax your car before winter also
