I couldn't find the liquid today so I bought Clear Valerian Capsules 450mg each. Says to take 3. I opened up the capsules and mixed them in warm water and took them an hour ago and do not feel anything. Thought they were good for Anxiety? Did I take them wrong. Can you take too many? Thanks.

Nothing wrong with drinking your Valerian powder, assuming it is pure herb. (Read the label - may be cut with magnesium stearate or other.)

Normally, if one is taking 3 capsules, that is for sleep. Usually dose for anxiety is about 1 500 mg capsule. And if one wants to drink Valerian, they buy teabags or cut herb. If you want to "brew" your herb, you use boiling water, steep for 5-10 minutes, then drink hot. Since you used warm water, you diluted the herb from it's absorption in your stomach. It will absorb from your intestines and eventually you will feel the calming effect.

Also note that the 3 capsule dose is for the average adult, 150 pounds, average sensitivity to the herb. You may have to adjust up or down for your weight and sensitivity. I wouldn't take any more after just an hour. Wait another 30 minutes to an hour and take one more if you feel you need it. Probably if you take too many (more than 6) you will feel sick.

The liquid extract works best because it is extracted with alcohol. If you have time, you can empty some of the capsules into a glass jar, cover with vodka or other 70 proof drinking alcohol, and let it sit for 2 weeks in a dark place, shaking occasionally. At the end of that time, pour the liquid through a paper coffee filter and use the resultant "extract" one glass eye-dropper (1/4 tsp.) per dose.

And as I write, you may be getting drowsy so you didn't need all this advice after all. :-)

I've never heard they were good for anxiety but I can see how they might help. Try eating a banana or eating yogurt. They have a natural chemical reaction that creates Melatonin in the body. this may make you sleepy but may calm you down also.

Have you ever researched Maca?

mixing them the way you did broke down the power. Take three as it says but do not break open capsules. Take same as any other pill.

valerian root is a sleep aid. I guess you could use it to calm you down, but it may make you sleepy.

try vitamin b6 for anxiety. Ginko is good for depression. echinacae is good for relaxation.
