nothing illegal, I just had to call some competitors for prices under the guise that I was an actual customer.

nope, just some dumb stuff, like calling a few other hotels to see what they charge a certain company for their corporate rate, i guess to see how we compare

No....and you need to becareful with that. It's a good way to land in jail, be fired, or sued....cause all the boss has to do is say no, I never gave him that permission. Best of luck to you.
