with short nail i think just a light pink or a clear coat would look exceptional. but a good mid winter near spring color is like a sparkling maroon or purple.

Nail polish is "out" just now. The groovy thing is just to keep them trimmed to a safe length. (Cat's claws are also "out" of style.) If you simply must have nail polish, go for a really weird shade of lime green like double d debbie has, or maybe a steely shade of grey.

I agree with the french tip thing.
Red's my favorite right now.
Then this pretty turquoise blue color.
I like to match mine with whatever jewelry or makeup I'm wearing at the time.

i actually read that darker colors are IN this year. go for a dark red, maybe a blue or purple or something.
