I need an XP genius...
Suddenly my laptop crashed and will not boot up, it keeps resetting to protect it's self...

I know a bit about computers so I ran in safe mode, no change
I pressed F8 and ran Debug Mode - failed
I pressed F8 and did System Windows Restore and I acctually got it on to the log in pge before it crashed again.
I did system configuration adn it crashed.

The error is:

File: Ntfs.sys
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

I need to disable the BIOS memory Chaching and Shadowing but how do I do this?

I don't think disabling bios memory etc etc will help with this. NTFS.SYS is a system file for accessing and reading NTFS partitions. I seems your drive or operating system has become corrupted.

You can try to install XP over the top of the drive, this will preserve your data, but some installed programs may fail to run. It depends on what is more valuable to you, your data or your apps. If neither is critically, just go for a repair or fresh install.

You will need the XP Home CD.

Boot laptop from CD
There should be an option to do a recovery.
Select this.
The system should go into a black screen.
Recovery Console and type: Chkdsk /r
This will try to recover lost data.

If this fails, then your only option is to rebuild your laptop

If this fails. Then the hard disk drive will require replacing and XP Home edition needs re-installing on new hhd.

hi...just use your windows XP 'recovery' disk.

make sure your comp can boot up from the dvd/cd drive first.

when that is done and you start your comp with the disk in, you will be able to use the 'r' facility...and it will rewrite files that are missing or corrupted...then your comp should be back to normal.
