Only if picked as the best answer. The person giving the thumbs up does not recieve or lose any points. And the best answer gets as many points as thumbs up - up to 50.

yeah, if you give a thumbs up on someone's answer, and it is chosen as best answer, then they get a point for each thumbs up they receive

once you acquire a "thumbs-up" score on a great answer which you wrote (as much as 50 thumbs-up are counted) you get one. yet, once you get a "thumbs-down" you do no longer lose any factors. on a similar time as the question continues to be open, an answer that has gotten greater effective than 4 low scores isn't shown.

depends where you put the thumb up... if you give to a best answer, they get a point, otherwise i don't think it counts
