Brought my '94 BMW to a local shop who said I needed a new fuel pump. The fuel pump did not fix the problem however. After another couple of days this shop gave up on fixing my car and told me I had to tow it to a BMW garage. They still had a nice $250 bill for me however.

The BMW shop fixed it after like a week. They are now charging me $400. The problem... believe it or not was that the first garage put my fuel pump in backwards!!!!

Can I sue the first garage for the cost of my BMW bill?

txpilot - it was put in backwards meaning the hoses were hooked up so the in was out and out was in.

ronf - i brought in my own fuel pump. it cost me like $250 and i'm not asking for that back. just the $400 in expenses to have the second mechanic troubleshoot the problems after teh first guys hooked it up wrong, go ahead... defend that some more... i bet you have practice from defending your own shoddy work.

I was a master certified tech for many years also service manager. for several dealerships also service writer. yes you can sue them and recover the cost of the towing and repairs to your car as far as future problems no there should be no other problems from this unless they did other unseen damage while checking for the problem. you should be able to recover lost time for the use of your car such as if you had to pay for a cab or rental car. Most states have a bureau of automotive regulation that you can report this type of problem to. Most service departs have a sign behind the desk with an 800 number to to call .They will check to make sure the shop was certified also the tech that performed the work was qualified . There are many issues here as to the shop and tech being trained on non american cars .

Depending on your local laws, yes you can, they might even pay for your repairs considering they are the ones that caused the problem in the first place, especially after you announce that you are going to tell everyone that you know and go to the BBB. Plus you can try to sue for the bill that you paid to them. Also talk to ASE about getting their certifications revoked.

KEEP ALL RECIEPTS!!!!

a reputable garage would more than likely refund you for the work you had done at their facility,as long as you have the proper documentation from the second repair also include your towing. they possibly have some type of insurance . if not contact the better business bureau and attorney generals office.

sounds like all they charged you was the price of the fuel pump. if you want to be a dick go ahead and sue. chances are you didnt bring in your own fuel pump nor do you know their prices(pumps).
