I just found out that I have to go for a second stage ultrasound because my HCG level is high. Im really nervous because I know it can mean one of two things. Can it sometimes read high and nothing be wrong? That's what the dr's office tells me.

Sometimes women produce more or less HCG than others. There is an average number, but as we all know, average is not the rule.

While I'm not going to say that nothing is wrong (because I'm not sure what your doc is going to look for... He may be checking for down syndrome or something or the like), an abnormal test in most cases is a temporary glitch, and the second test comes back normal.

Were these the results of the triple screening tests? About a quarter of those come back abnormal. About a quarter of the abnormal ones are really abnormal.

Try not to scare yourself before you go to the doctor. There's a good 75% chance that there's nothing wrong (again, that's the average, not the rule).

I think you need to know you are probably pregnant. If you already know this and it is still high it could mean you are farther along than you think.

Go by what YOUR doctor says.

How are you honestly going to know who here really is qualified to answer you?
